The first Canby Public Library in 1939, sharing space in Canby City Hall with the council chambers.
The year was 1937, and Canby had just built a new city hall. In June of that year, Mrs. C.P. Shewey went before the Canby City Council to ask that the councilors make room someplace in the new building for the first Canby Public Library.
