Grant money buys AED units for schools

Defibrillators installed in every district school building

The Canby School District has installed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) unit in every district building.

The American Heart Association recommends that defibrillation be performed within two minutes of cardiac arrest.

The district has enhanced this by using a $4,970 grant from the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund to purchase the AED units for five elementary school buildings and the district office, previously without the units.

Clackamas Emergency Services Foundation provided a $2,500 matching grant for the project.
In collaboration with the Canby Police Department and Canby Fire District, district maintenance staff strategically placed and installed the units.  Got a News Tip?Some staff members at each building in the district are trained on the use of AED units as part of regular first aid training.

The district had previously installed similar units at Canby High School, Ackerman Middle School, Baker Prairie Middle School and Ninety-One School, using a combination of bond and grant funds.
