Library half-price book sale
Friends of the Canby Public Library’s half-price book sale continues through Saturday. Regular hardback books will be $1 and paperbacks 50 cents. Children’s items will be 25 cents each. Specially-marked items will also be half-price. The Friends of the Library bookstore has a selection of gently-used books. The inventory covers a variety of interests, including novels, cookbooks, classics and collectable books.
The bookstore is open during library hours.

CHS Key Club kicks off Pennies for Patients campaign
The Canby High School Key Club’s annual "Pennies For Patients" fundraisi
ng campaign to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will continue through Friday.
Pennies For Patients is a schoolwide competition between all second period classes to raise the most money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The LLS is an organization dedicated to providing patient support, research dollars and advocacy for individuals with blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
The Key Club's goal is to educate CHS peers about blood cancers, raise awareness about the LLS and collect $2,500 for the organization this year. The winning class gets a pizza party. Second and third place classes will get donuts.

Iwo Jima flag-raising ceremony set for Feb. 20
Canby's annual Iwo Jima flag-raising ceremony will commemorate the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Canby Adult Center.
The Canby-Aurora VFW 6057 Post and Auxiliary is inviting individuals and all veterans groups and service organizations to take their colors and be part of the ceremony. Assembly is at 9:30 a.m. A breakfast will be served by the Canby Adult Center after the ceremony. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10-and-younger.

Portland author to be keynote speaker at 2010 Spring Fling
Canby's annual gala event, Spring Fling, is set for the evening of Thursday, April 29 at Willamette Valley Country Club. Besides a catered buffet dinner, the Canby Educational Foundation fundraiser will feature renowned Portland author Craig Lesley as keynote speaker. Lesley's works include “Burning Fence” and “The Sky Fisherman.”

Canby auxiliary to hold a President's Valentine Steak Dinner
Canby American Legion Auxiliary will host a president's Valentine steak dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, in the post's upper dining room. The dinner and a chocolate six-layer cake raffle will benefit the Veteran Creative Art's Project. The public is invited to attend. Dinner is $10.
The American Legion's dining room is at 424 NW First St. in Canby. Use the Fir Street entrance.
Two-for-one Canby swim slated
The Canby Swim Center will hold a special public swim from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, as part its yearlong 40th anniversary celebration. Cost of admission will be two-for-one.

Chorus offers singing Valentines
Delight your valentine with a singing Valentine from Cascade Harmony Chorus. Two love songs, a flower, a balloon and a personalized card are included. The group delivers fun-filled, heartfelt Valentines every year. They travel to places of work, restaurants, homes, hospital rooms, schools, or wherever the recipient happens to be on Feb. 12, 13 or 14. The cost is $40.

Rock Creek Association to meet
Rock Creek Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 on Sconce Road in the Needy district. Those who have plots or graves are encouraged to attend as well as neighbors and friends who are interested in the welfare of the grounds.
