Kathryn Y. Miller
Kathryn Y. Miller, 86, of Keizer, died Jan. 19, 2010.
She was born April 8, 1923, in Hubbard to Edward Z. and Alice P. Troyer Yoder. She graduated from Canby High School in 1940 and from Goshen College in 1949.
On June 7, 1949, she married Warren M. Miller in Goshen.
She taught elementary school at Berlin Elementary School in Millersburg, Ohio, and at Ninety-One School in Hubbard from 1960 to 1969 and from 1970 until her retirement in 1984.
She was a member of the Martin’s Creek Mennonite Church in Millersburg and the First Church of the Nazarene in Salem. She taught Sunday school and helped with the book club and the Early Birds.
She was proud of her part in the Yoder Sisters Cookbook. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, antiques, cooking and spending time at the beach.
Survivors include her husband, sons; Edward Z. and Edwin Y., both of Salem; daughter, Pamela K. Raber of Salem; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1550 Market St. NE, Salem.

Bobby Leroy Smith
Bobby Leroy Smith, 78, of Canby, died Jan. 14, 2010.
He was born April 10, 1931, in Arnett, Okla., to Bert and Beulah Smith.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He applied to be a cook, trained as a radio repairman and served as a soccer coach as part of the military goodwill services in Germany.
He was a former Oregon City commissioner and worked for the city 23 years, retiring as street superintendent June 30, 1988.
On July 2, 1988, he married Patricia Smith at Oregon City.
He attended Canby Christian Church and was a member of the Oregon City and Canby Lions clubs.
Survivors include his wife; stepsons, Jason Karlik of Texas and Greg Karlik of Alaska; six brothers; two sisters; and four grandchildren.
His parents, three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
A service will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. at Canby Christian Church with the Rev. Ken Harvey officiating.
Marguerite Hunt
Marguerite Opal Gordon Hunt, 89, of Woodburn, died Jan. 22, 2010.
She was born June 11, 1920, in Nickerson, Kan., to Earl and Daisy Gordon.
In 1939, she married Elvis D. Hunt. They lived in Kansas, Mo., and Grandview, Wash., before moving to Woodburn in 2002.
In Grandview, she worked at Libby’s for eight years. A homemaker, she enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, reading, drawing, painting, singing and writing songs, two of which will be sung at her service.
Survivors include her sons, Dave of Parker, Colo., and Dan of Post Falls, Idaho; daughters, Darlene Schneider, Twylia St. James and Kay Hemstreet, all of Woodburn; Leona Collett of Chewelah, Wash., and Saundra Volland of Spokane Valley, Wash.; sister, Pearl Gunter; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Her brothers, Claude, Willis, Orval and Kenneth, and sisters Minnie Shadwick, Thelma Bratcher and Lena Belle Grindle preceded her in death.
A funeral service was held Jan. 29 at Beavercreek Baptist Church, with burial at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Debra Laurance
Debra Evonne Laurance, 56, of Woodburn, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010.
She was born Oct. 6, 1953, in Eagle Bend, Minn., to Roger and Muriel Wedner.
On June 1, 1974, she married David Brent Laurance.
She was a farmer and owned Cascade Hazelnuts. She was a longtime volunteer with Woodburn Gleaners and Hoodview Church of God.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Brent of Beaverton, James of Salem and Steve of Brier, Wash.; daughter, Amy Hoyt of Seattle; brothers, Rodney and Wesley Wedner of Salem; and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Woodburn Hoodview Church of God. Burial will be at Claggett Creek Cemetery.
