John Baker

John Baker is a 23-year veteran of community newspapers. After earning a Bachelor of Science at Southern Oregon State College, he began his career as the sports editor of the Woodburn Independent for a  number of years before becoming editor. He served in that post for five years, then did stints at the Stayton Mail and Silverton Appeal before coming back to the Independent to do sports again. A year into his return, he again became the editor and spent 10 years there before arriving as the editor and GM of the Canby Herald in the summer of 2007. Baker is an award-winning news, feature and editorial writer and has also been honored for page design. In his spare time he enjoys hanging out with this three children and wife Donnadean, as well as coaching track and field and being involved in sports in general.
