Commenting Policy
You understand and agree that these Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are provided solely as a convenience to you. In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between these FAQs and the privacy policy, the terms and conditions of the privacy policy will supersede these.
Q. If I post a comment, will I be publicly identified? A. Yes. You will be identified by your first and last initial, and the city (and state/country if outside Oregon) associated with your account. Your address, e-mail address and phone number will not be published. If you include them in your post we will make commercially reasonable efforts to remove them, but to protect your privacy, please do not include them in your post. Do not give out your username and password to others, because they could pose as you to post a comment. If you believe an unauthorized person has posted a comment with your account, e-mail
wcassell@canbyherald.com.
We reserve the right to reveal your identity (or other information we may have, including IP address and your ISP) in the event of a legal action arising from any information posted by you.
Q. Why can’t I have a screen name? Why do I have to be a registered user to post a comment?
A. Our objective is to provide a spirited but civil discussion about the issues of the day and our reporting on them. By limiting participation to subscribers and identifying them with the initials of the names associated with their accounts, we reduce the likelihood of abusive posts and can ban future posts from subscribers who don’t follow the policies.
Q. Will my comment be edited? A. No. Comments are the responsibility of those who post them, and we do not accept any responsibility for their accuracy, fairness or even spelling or grammar. We reserve the right to refuse to publish comments or remove comments that we believe are offensive or inappropriate, that we suspect may violate copyrights, or that don’t conform with our policies. But we will not ban or delete comments simply because we disagree with them, nor will we promote those we do agree with.
Q. I think a comment is offensive. What can I do? A. Please click the Report Abuse link next to the comment to alert our staff.
Q. I posted a comment but it has not appeared. Why? A. Comments may be briefly reviewed by us or our representatives before they are published. We reserve the right to refrain from publishing or to remove comments that aren’t relevant to the article, that contain advertising, personal attacks or abusive language, or that we believe may include copyrighted material. If your comment has not appeared within a reasonable time and you believe it does not violate these comment policies, please e-mail
wcassell@canbyherald.com. Subscribers who violate our comment policies may be blocked from making further posts.
Q. Can my comment include a link? A. Yes, if it is relevant, but the link will not appear as "active." Comments with more than two links may be treated as spam. Spamming and advertising are prohibited. We define spam as content that is not related to the article or that advertises products, services or websites.
