Mildred M. Handlin, 91, died Feb. 20, 2010, of congestive heart failure in Brier, Wash. She was born April 19, 1918, in Alton, Ill., to James Arthur and Margaret Ellen Vermillion. She grew up on a farm run by her father. On July 1, 1038, she married Stanly Wayne Handlin in Alton and traveled with him during his career in the U.S. Navy. After he retired, they bought a home on Macksburg Road in Canby.

Elmer L. Gilbertson Elmer Lester Gilbertson, 97, of Canby, died Thursday, Feb. 25, at Rackleff Place. He was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Crosby, N.D., the oldest of four sons of Gilbert and Laura Gilbertson.

Mary Jesse Muñoz Mary Jesse Muñoz, 51, of Woodburn, died Jan. 29, 2010. She was born Dec. 30, 1958 in Glendale, Ariz. She grew up in the Broadacres area and later moved to Independence where she graduated from Central High School.
