As a member of state’s first-ever cultural exchange all-star team, which 50 years ago journeyed to Japan, the Canby High School alumnus played a role in starting what is now a revered tradition of international competition and camaraderie.

The North Marion softball team opened the 2013 season with a 12-2 loss in six innings to the hosting Central Panthers on March 14, and third-year head coach Neil Forste suspects it may be a good thing in the long run.
