Boys tennis: Doubles depth big for Huskies’ perfect 4-0 start

AURORA – Depth has fueled the North Marion boys tennis team’s success so far this season.The Huskies remained perfect in Special District 2 play, defeating Madras 7-1 at home last Wednesday to improve to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in league play.

The up-and-down season for the Canby girls tennis team continued last week.But fortunately for the Cougars, at least the weather has cooperated.After seeing three straight dual matches decided by tiebreaker, Canby dropped a disappointing 8-0 decision to West Linn last Wednesday at home.

The Canby girls golf team slipped back in the standings after finishing third in a Three Rivers League match on April 16.The Cougars are now four points back of second-place Lake Oswego in the TRL standings with 26 points.

North Marion knocked off Tri-Valley Conference champion Madras 8-2 on Friday afternoon at North Marion High School to put the Huskies (15-10 overall, 8-7 TVC) in a tie for third place in the standings.

Despite three months until daily doubles begin in August, coach Mike Vaught couldn’t be more optimistic with what lies ahead. Canby will get its first glance at its 2012 football team next week with its annual team camp on June 4-8 and scrimmages against eight other schools on June 9-10 at Canby High School.
