McKie tabbed January's CARE award winner

Canby Kiwanis and the Canby business community have named Kim McKie its January teacher of the month. The Canby Area Recognition of Excellence award is given to teachers and staff who excel in educating children by building a foundation that supports a lifelong love of learning, challenges the children to strive for better and enhances their lives — one student at a time.



Kindergarten registration times, dates set

The Canby School District has set the dates for its kindergarten roundup registration program. The registration for kindergarten begins May1. Parents can check with the district office to find out which district they live in.

The Canby School District has elected to upgrade the Canby High School softball complex. The district board of directors Thursday night told Superintendent John Steach and staff to move forward on the project.

Baker Prairie Middle School will host Olympic track and field distance runner Lopez Lomong Thursday, March 21.  Lomong just set an American record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:06.

Lee Elementary School sixth-graders were all revved up Friday. They concluded a six-week study on energy by building tiny solar cars and racing them on a small track.

Disney musical ‘Aladdin’ on tap April 11 to 13

Baker Prairie Middle School will present the Disney musical "Aladdin" Thursday through Saturday, April 11 to 13, at the Richard R. Brown Fine Arts Center.
