MOMS club sets business meeting

 

The MOMS Club of Canby will hold a business meeting beginning at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday at the Canby Alliance Church at 900 N. Juniper St.

Plant sale on tap for Canby Lions Auxiliary

 

The Canby Lions Auxiliary will sell hanging baskets and potted plants on Friday on Northeast Second Avenue, between Columbia River Bank and the Thai Dish restaurant.

Canby Junior Festival of Jazz
is Saturday

 

Youth jazz bands will return to Wait Park this year from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday to perform in the 18th Annual Canby Junior Festival of Jazz.

Sponsored by the Whiskey Hill Jazz Club, the event features continuous live jazz entertainment by youth bands from across the state.

There will also be a noon performance by the Whiskey Hill Senior Jazz Band and guest clinicians Warren Rand, Steven Cannon, Derek Bondy, Clay Gilberson, Charlie Doggett, and Tom Wakeling under the direction of Clark Bondy.

Besides the music, there will be food, a raffle, and an auction throughout the day.

Admission is free. In case of rain, the event will be held across the street at Knight Elementary School.

 

Walk benefits Pregnancy Care Centers

 

The 11th annual Steps for Life fundraiser, which benefits the nonprofit Pregnancy Care Centers in Canby, Molalla and Woodburn, takes place Saturday.

The event is a two-mile easy stroll beginning at the Foothills Community Church in Molalla. There will be one walk and each year it rotates between Molalla, Canby and Woodburn. All walkers, with or without pledge forms, need to register between 1 and 1:30 pm. on the day of the event. All ages are welcome to participate.

Activities include puppets, face painting, balloon art, a soloist, a speaker and refreshments. Prizes, T-shirts and sweatshirts will be awarded to adults, youth, and children who collect enough pledges.

Pledge forms can be obtained at the Molalla PCC at 120 Engle Ave., the Canby PCC at 149 N. Holly St. or the Woodburn PCC at 967 N. Cascade Drive and at many churches in the area.

The Pregnancy Care Centers offer complimentary pregnancy tests, confidential peer counseling, accurate information, and referrals. Baby clothes, maternity clothes, baby items and furniture can be earned through the Learn N' Earn parenting program.

Canby dance team plans fundraiser

 

The Canby Cougar dancer team will hold a planting day fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday.

The plant sale will be held at Phillips Soil, 26050 S. Highway 170 in Canby.

Love INC to host fundraiser

 

Love INC (Love In the Name of Christ) will hold a sale to raise money to help volunteers help people in need in local communities Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 555 S.W. Second Ave. in Canby.

 

“Canby PD” will feature department inner workings

 

OCTS Channel 5 will begin showing a new episode of “Canby PD,” which will feature the department’s two records specialists, Lupita Robles and Liz Carson. They will discuss the ways they assist the chief, the officers and the public.

Show times are Mondays at noon, Wednesdays at 1 p.m., Thursdays at 6 p.m., Fridays at 12:30 p.m., and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The show is sponsored by the Canby Police Department and hosted by Karen Hill.

 

Canby High School seeks help for grad party

 

Canby High School is asking for help from local businesses to put on the annual drug and alcohol free all-night party for the senior class the night of graduation.

A supervised night of music, dancing, food, games, exercise, prizes and much more is planned for the night of June 6 at Ackerman Middle School. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated.

The goal is to provide at least one prize for each of the graduates to take home.

Other expenses include food, decorations and entertainment Costs for the event are expected to be about $10,000.

All donations will be appreciated.

Cash donations are still being accepted.

The school is also asking for prizes suitable for teenagers, gift certificates or food items for the night of the party.

School volunteers will pick up any donations or donations may be sent to: GAP (Graduation All-Night Party) PO Box 227, Canby, OR 97013.

Garage sale slated by Friends of library

 

The Friends of the Canby Public Library organization is looking for volunteers to help with its bookstore.

The group will hold a garage sale Saturday, May 17, at St. Josef’s Winery.

CHS Class of 1988 will celebrate reunion in July

 

The Canby High School class of 1988 will celebrate its 20-year reunion during a two-day event on July 25-26.

The Reunion Celebration on Friday night will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Antonia Ballroom, on the second floor of the Odd Fellows Building in Canby.

The Saturday Family Picnic will be held at Canby’s Legacy Park, beginning at noon.

Next Relay for Life warm-up meeting is June 2

 

The Canby Relay for Life will be held June 27-28 at Ackerman Middle School.

Committee and team captain meetings will be at Canby Pub and Grill on June 2 with committee meetings starting at 6 p.m. and team captains meeting starting at 7 p.m.

Future meetings will be on the following dates: June 16 and 23. Anyone who is interested is encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Robin Adcock at adcockr@canby.k12.or.us.

 

Drop-ins welcome at divorce recovery meetings

 

A DivorceCare recovery group meets at the New Life Foursquare Church campus. This is a support group for people who have experienced divorce or been affected by it.

The group meets downstairs in the library of the Canby Bible College from 7 to 8:30 p.m. There is no charge, however, a workbook will be offered for sale at $13.

Book purchase is not a requirement for attendance.

The course started April 3 and will last for 13 weeks, but drop-ins are welcome at any time. For more information, call the church office at 503-266-4444.

 

North Marion plans All-Class Reunion

The North Marion All-Class Reunion will be held Saturday, July 19 at 13933 Hito Lane N.E. near Aurora. The Big Reunion Party starts at noon. All North Marion alumni from the classes of 1949 to 2007 are invited.
