Businesses enrich student activities at CHS As another school year ends, we would like to publicly thank the businesses and people in our community who are so important in the success of students in our Life Skills and Career classes at Canby High School. Thank you to Godfather’s Pizza, Safeway and Dollar Tree, the wonderful managers and staff for your support in giving daily work experience to our students. You provide a valuable learning opportunity for the students to be productive and successful. We appreciate you all very much. Canby Public Library — Your one-stop information and entertainment source — Member of the Library Information Network of Clackamas County (LINCC). Hanna Hofer Canby Public Library First Friday in Canby is a must see for residents I am just writing to encourage anyone who has not been to First Friday here in Canby to see what it’s all about. My husband and I attended the last one June 2. It was so much fun because we kept running into people we knew and we just had the best time. I wonder how many people are aware of this? The Canby Arts Association has done a great job of bringing a big city idea to our little city and I think we need to support it. Patsy Johnston Canby Volunteers make county emergency drills a success On June 21, Clackamas County conducted a public health exercise to practice distribution of medication to a large number of our citizens should we be faced with a major public health emergency. We would like to thank the community, the media, local jurisdictions, county staff and others who helped us with our exercise. A special thanks goes to Clackamas Community College, which hosted the event. It is important for every citizen to plan for emergencies and understand what they can do before, during and after an event to safeguard themselves and their families. Nearly 400 people went through the exercise and it was a great opportunity for us to practice our response and for citizens to understand how the process works and what to expect. We are blessed in this region with having a great working relationship among local and state governments. We work together collaboratively to plan for and respond to all emergencies, to the benefit of the citizens that live and work in our region. Again, thanks to all of you that helped conduct the exercise and to those that attended. Dana Robinson Director, Clackamas County Homeland Security Gary DiCenzo Director, Clackamas County Department of Human Services Why is Canby great? Look at the graduation party Do the people of Canby realize what a great community we have? If you don’t already know, I hope you will agree with me after reading this. I have been involved with the Canby High School All-Night Graduation Party donations committee for several years. Year after year, the businesses and citizens of Canby and the surrounding areas unselfishly give to make this event a success. It is such an important night and we, literally, save lives by providing a fun night for the graduates to celebrate their accomplishments in a safe manner. This would not be possible without the support of a great community. Even with all our tireless volunteers, it would not happen without the monetary support of so many. This year, we received more than $10,000 in cash donations, and I can’t even begin to total the value of the other items donated — there were so many. Each year I am overwhelmed by the way people give to this event again and again. Please watch for our “Thank You!” ad in the Canby Herald. If you know businesses or citizens listed there, please let them know that their efforts have not gone unnoticed. Thank you to the volunteers and contributors. This party was, once again, a huge success because of the combined efforts of us all. Canby is a great place! When I’m visiting other areas, I am always proud to say, “I’m from Canby!” Mary Sandner CHS GAP 2006 Donations Chair Canby |
