Back in the groove

So I guess nothing has really happened since my three-week vacation ended.
Other than seeing the Canby football team take down defending Class 6A state champion Southridge on its home field in an impressive fashion.
It'll be interesting to see just how good this version of Canby's team can be this season. Was last Friday's game a telltale sign of things to come, or is Southridge a little down after losing several of its top players from its state-title team?
But you can't take away the fact that the Cougars won the game convincingly against a team ranked third in the state.
The number of weapons on offense, a bigger offensive line from last season, and a defense looking to prove once again that they're one of the best in the state could mean another special season.
A lot of questions also remain in the conference with Tualatin and Tigard adjusting to new head coaches, Newberg still looking to prove itself as a legitimate state-playoff team again, Forest Grove also under a new head coach, and McMinnville looking to rebuild its program.
Canby also has a schedule that will include Tualatin and Tigard at home, unlike the past two seasons.
Friday night at Westview will provide another interesting test against another strong Metro League contender.
