The crews were out early Sunday and made quick work of the maple trees along Northwest First Avenue. The trees were taken down in preparation for the coming First Avenue redevelopment project. Due to the loss of half the parking lot to railroad right-of-way, the reconstruction of First Avenue will not allow a tree protection zone large enough to protect or preserve the root zones of the existing trees, city officials said.
